Many of JRiver's Media Network features require use of an Access Key. This is a six character string that is associated with the server (MC).

Media Network must be turned on in MC's options. Tools > Options > Media Network. An Access Key will then be displayed.

Use this Access Key on your client program. This might be JRemote, Gizmo, Panel, or Media Center itself.

A recent version of JRiver Media Center is required in order to use the Access Key. The key is automatically generated by JRiver's servers.

The key is associated with two IP addresses. One is for your server, as seen from inside your network (local address), and the other is your network's Internet address (outside address).

The Access Key method will work even if your outside address changes from time to time.

To achieve access from outside your network, your router must also forward requests to the correct PC, and your firewall must allow access on the port being used (normally 52199). Please see the topic called "Network Access" for more information.

IP Address Method

You can, instead, use an IP address to connect. When you are asked for the Access Key, just enter an IP address, followed by a colon (:) and the the port you're using.

Example: 192.168.0.15:52199

Your computer's firewall must inbound access (normally from 52100 to 52200 for JRiver) and 1900 for SSDP. Firewalls on other network equipment may also need to be modified.
