To select a transfer mode for your device, go to Tools > Options > Handheld. There are two ways to transfer files to a Handheld/Portable Device.

Manual Mode (Drag & Drop)

When manual mode is selected, you can start downloading files to your device immediately.

  1. In the Action Window, select Handheld Player.
  2. Select the Device (assuming there are more than one).
  3. Select files and drag them onto the open Handheld Action Window.
  4. Select Transfer.

If you prefer to view a list of queued files first, select “Details” in the Action Window. The content pane on the right displays both the files that are already on the device, as well those queued for transfer. Click on the Status column to sort.

You can delete files from the queue (by right-clicking). When you are ready to transfer the files, select the 'Transfer’ button.

Other manual ways to transfer files to your player:

  • Drag and drop files or playlists onto the handheld device item in the organization tree; or
  • Right click on the files or playlist and select Send To > Drives & Devices > and select your Device.

See Handheld Advanced Options for information regarding configurable options, including filepaths, statistics, and conversion modes.

Synch Mode

Auto-sync provides a managed approach to maintaining files on your device. It synchronizes the files on the device with user-selected playlists.

The following options are set in Tools > Options > Handhelds.

What to sync

There are two synchronization modes:

  • Sync Mode – All will copy all files and playlists to your device. This is not recommended if your Media Center library is large, since you may not have enough space on your device.
  • Sync Mode – Playlists will copy just those files in the playlists and/or smartlists you select.

To keep the device and the Media Center playlist or smartlist truly synchronized, you can choose to automatically remove all files on your device that do not appear in the selected playlist/smartlist. This feature is in Advanced Options.

When to sync

You can have Media Center automatically synchronize whenever the device is connected. Check “Auto-sync on connect” under Advanced Options.

To synchronize on demand, right-click on the device in tree and select Synchronize. Or select Handheld Player in the Action Window, select the device, then press the Sync button.

See Handheld Advanced Options for information regarding configurable options, including filepaths, statistics, and conversion modes.
