MyMovies is a Movie and TV Series metadata service designed to integrate with Windows Media Center. JRiver Media Center 14 added the ability to read metadata from www.mymovies.dk. Unfortunately, the mymovies.xml file was encrypted in later versions of MyMovies so JRiver Media Center could not read them.

In May 2012, a request was made to Brian Binnerup of MyMovies to add a feature to create JRSidecar files containing the MyMovies movie metadata. A new version of MyMovies (4.03 Build 3) was released in July 2012 containing this new feature. Thanks to many people who supported this request in this thread. Thanks to John (WeeHappyPixie) for helping to make this happen.

In order to use this feature, a user must have a minimum of 500 MyMovies points. These can be purchased or earned.

Each of your movies will need to be in a dedicated Windows folder. If they aren't, you can use the move/rename tool within MC to have it move all selected files to an appropriately named folder.

To set up MyMovies to create these JRSidecar files, in My Movies:

  • Open Collection Management
  • Go to Tools > Options > Meta Data Storage and check: "Store meta-data for JRiver MediaCenter (Sidecar.xml files)".
  • Click "Apply" and OK. User Access Control will require confirmation of this change.
  • As a test, select one of your movies and click on "Save Title". This will cause the JRSidecar file for that movie to be replaced.

In JRiver MediaCenter:

  • Go to Video > Files and find the same movie.
  • Right click and select Library Tools > Update Library (from tags).
  • The relevant fields should now show the MyMovies data.

If this has worked OK, go back to MyMovies Collection Management:

  • Select all entries by selecting one then use CTRL A.
  • Click on "Save Title". This will cause all JRSidecar.xml files to be updated.

In JRiver MediaCenter:

  • Go to Video > Files and select all movie files.
  • Right click and select Library Tools > Update Library (from tags).
  • The relevant fields should now show the MyMovies data for all movies.
