[Media Sub Type] is one of Media Centers important predefined Library Fields. MC tries to assign an appropriate [Media Sub Type] to many file types automatically upon import, and uses these categories in the predefined [[Media Views]] (to separate, for example, TV Shows from Movies). Also, certain Media Sub Types have have special behaviors in regards to [[bookmarking]] and the [[Automatic Metadata Lookup]] system among other features.
