Generates (Create New Sounds)

Generates are tools that allow you to create new sounds. To use a generate, simply move the cursor to where you'd like to insert the new sound, and choose a generate from the Generate menu. Every generate has a more or less standard interface that allows generate specific settings, and the ability to preview the new sound.

Silence

This generate creates silence.

  1. Select duration (ms). Note: 1000 ms = 1 second.
  2. Click "Preview" or "Generate".

After selecting Generate, the amount of silence you specified should be inserted into the track at the point you specified.

Noise

This generate creates the specified color of noise.

  1. Select duration.
  2. Choose a Color/Style (differing levels of static):
    • white - purely random numbers....sounds slightly unnatural and harsh
    • pink - colored to sound more natural than white noise (less high frequency energy)
    • brown - different than the first two... just listen to hear the difference
  3. Choose "Preview" or "Generate".

After selecting Generate, the amount of noise you specified will be inserted into the track at the point you specified.

Tone

This generate creates a solid tone at the specified frequency.

  1. Select duration.
  2. Select a frequency.
  3. Choose "Preview" or "Generate".

After selecting Generate, the amount of tone you specified will be inserted into the track at the point you specified.

Tone Sweep

This generate creates a tone sweep between the two specified frequencies.

  1. Select duration.
  2. Select a frequency range.
  3. Choose "Preview" or "Generate".

After selecting Generate, the amount of tone sweep you specified will be inserted into the track at the point you specified.

Telephone

Telephone simulates the dialing of a touch tone phone.

  1. Select duration.
  2. Select a telephone number.
  3. Choose "Preview" or "Generate".

After selecting Generate, the amount of telephone you specified will be inserted into the track at the point you specified.
