No sound

  • Is there an audio device installed on the computer? Check Device Manager to ensure there's an audio device and that it is enabled and working.
  • Is sound muted? Double click on the speaker icon in the lower right corner of the Windows desktop
  • Try switching between Direct Sound and Wave Out in MC's options for playback.

Sounds bad

  • Try playing the track in Windows Media Player.
  • Try switching between Direct Sound and Wave Out in MC's options for playback.
  • Check the DirectShow settings for the file type in MC Options/Playback/Video/DirectShow. If it is checked, uncheck the filetype for playback in DirectShow.
  • Is there any special sound software installed? Consider uninstalling it.

File stops early

  • Try playing the track in Windows Media Player. The file may be corrupt or the tag may be bad.
