JRVR - JRiver Video Renderer/Troubleshooting
When facing some common issues with video playback using JRVR, hopefully some of these steps can help to either solve the problem, or at least identify the source of the problem.
JRVR Troubleshooting Steps
Below we documented a few common steps to take to attempt to identify playback issues, and resolve them.
Update graphics drivers
The most ubiquitous step of them all - make sure your drivers are actually up to date, as any issues may already have been resolved.
Disable Hardware accelerated video decoding
Hardware accelerated video decoding relies on the graphics card to decode the video image, but this can in some cases result in conflicts with drivers.
In Media Center, this option can be found at:
Options -> Video -> Hardware accelerated video decoding if possible
Reset the JRVR settings / load a preset
If you are facing performance issues during playback, or other playback issues, its always a good idea to reset the JRVR settings.
JRVR includes 3 presets for different performance levels. You can load them on the General page in the JRVR settings.
Start with the Performance preset to rule out any performance related issues, and if that works you can work your way up, or customize the settings directly to your liking.
Disable hardware video deinterlacing (Windows only)
Similar to hardware decoding, hardware deinterlacing uses the graphic cards built-in functions to deinterlace the video. Depending on the driver, this may cause issues.
To attempt to isolate issues with this, in the JRVR settings on the Processing tab, you can swap deinterlacing to YADIF, a custom deinterlacer independent of the graphic cards drivers.
Toggle the JRVR Presentation Queue
When struggling with stuttering playback or similar issues, toggling the "Presentation Queue" option in the JRVR Advanced settings may shed some light on the cause.
If its currently enabled, turn it off, or vice-versa, and report your results on the forum, which may help us to identify the cause of any playback issues.
