It plays music from your PC, using your wireless LAN. It connects to a receiver or to powered PC speakers so you can hear high quality sound.

It's a DLNA Renderer and can be controlled by a DLNA Controller.

You can use J. River Media Center to send it your music. You can use J. River Media Center or a cell phone to control it.

Plug in the Id

Connect the power cord to an outlet (110 to 240V). Push the power switch on the front.

Plug the audio cable into an amplifier or powered speakers.

Remove the protective plastic film from the silver surface on top.

Connect the Id to your wireless network

There are two methods for doing this.

WPS

If your router has a WPS button, push it once. The light on the router should start blinking. While it is blinking push the WPS button on the back of the Id. It's a very small button in the middle. Push it once. The router light should turn solid. This "pairing" takes a minute or two.

WCN

Your Windows PC can save your network configuration on a USB stick. To get the wireless configuration onto the USB stick choose the following instructions based on your version of Windows.

Win 7
If your Win7 PC is connected to the wireless network, you can click the network icon in the system tray, right-click your wireless network name, and select Properties. On the Connection tab, click "Copy this network profile to a USB flash drive." Otherwise use the WCN configuration generator below.

Win Vista
Use the WCN configuration generator below.

Win XP SP2 or newer
Please note -- customers have reported that this method may not work for XP. You may be able to edit the settings file on the USB drive.

Go to My Network Places then
Setup a wireless network for home or small office
You are now in the Wireless Network Setup Wizard, click Next

Step 1:
If you are already using this computer on the wireless network that you'll be using for the Id select the Add New Device or Computer to the xxxx network, click Next, continue onto Step 2 below.

Step 1b:
If you are NOT using this computer on the same wireless network as the Id, choose Setup a new wireless network in the Wireless Network Setup Wizard. Click Next.
Fill in the Network Name (SSID).
Choose Manually assign a network key
If you are using WPA encryption, check the WPA checkbox. Click Next.
Enter in your existing network key and enter it again in the confirm box. Click Next.

Step 2:
Select the Use a USB flash drive button, click Next. Make sure your USB stick is plugged in.
In the dropdown box, choose the driver letter for your USB stick (flash drive). Click Next.
When the flash drive writing is done, you'll get a message box saying Transfer your network settings to your other computers or devices. The configuration is now on the USB stick. Remove it and go to Transfer wireless configuration to the Id below.

Mac or other OS
You can try the following WCN configuration generator. Note that you'll be putting your network key in to the generator. Consider the security ramifications of that. Unzip the resulting zip file to the root of your USB stick.

Use the USB stick to transfer the wireless configuration to the Id
To transfer the configuration to the Id, you must set the small switch on the back. Each time you change this switch setting, the device must be power cycled to recognize the change.

Set the switch to the right (in the WCN position), turn the Id off, plug the USB stick into the Id, and turn the Id back on. The Id will read the configuration. Be patient with it. This will take several minutes.

When the lights stop flashing, wait one more minute, remove the USB stick, then set the switch back to the left (WIFI position), and power the Id off and on. When it has rebooted, your Id should now be on your wireless LAN.

Find the Id in MC

Start MC 15.0.173 or higher. Within two or three minutes, Playing Now will open up and show the J. River Id.

Reception Problems

If the Id does not appear or if it disappears from time to time, try moving it or try using the stand that came with it to mount it in a vertical position. The antenna is on the bottom of the Id.

Play music

Drag and drop a single track on the J. River Id to test. If that works, clicking on the Id should set that zone to active and anything you now play will play there.

Format conversion

J. River Media Center's DLNA options for Media Network allow you to convert music on-the-fly as it plays.
