Upgrades and Updates

Important There are discounted prices on upgrades to the new version of JRiver Media Center. You can download a trial version.

HERE'S HOW to UPGRADE Instructions on the forum

DESCRIPTION There are several ways to improve your MC experience:

  • If you already own a Media Center license for the most recent version, just download and install the latest, then restore your license if necessary. The version of the license and the program should be the same, but a new license may also work with the last build of the previous version. For example, an MC30 license also works with MC29.0.87.
  • Minor updates are free. If you own Media Center 29 (for example), it is free to update to the latest build of that version by downloading and installing. This can be done automatically by selecting an update channel under Help.
  • If you own MC on Windows and would like to purchase a Mac or Linux version, you can upgrade to a Master License that works on all three OS's. You can use any license to purchase for another OS at an upgrade price. Mac for Linux, for instance.
  • If you own an earlier version of MC on any OS, you can upgrade for that OS or upgrade to a Master License. MC can use your old data and settings. It can also restore a backup (and settings) from an earlier version. MC makes backups (as .zip files) automatically.

Media Center 30 Upgrades

MC is available on the JRiver Download Page. The MC30 license you receive will work with MC29.0.86 and higher) or with MC30 when it is available.

Data Migration

- Run the download file first, in order to install MC.

- During the installation, the installer will find your library (from MC20 or later automatically). Earlier versions require a manual restore of a library backup. Mac and Linux versions require a manual restore of a backup from a previous version. Backup in your old version, and restore in the new one. MC makes automatic backups. Backup and Restore

- MC will only import the "Default Library", however it doesn't care if you renamed or moved it (MC can find it)

- Settings are stored on a per-user basis, so if you need to install using an entirely different user account (because yours isn't an Admin), migration won't find its things

- Installation mode makes no difference

- If multiple old versions of MC exist, it should use the newest

- File Associations should be updated in the installation process, just like a fresh install
