Media Center uses the LAME MP3 Encoder. The encoder can be run from the command line (and this can be used to determine the version).
MC11.1 and MC 12 use the version 3.97 beta 2.
The encoder can be updated by placing a new version of lame.exe in the MC Program Path\Plugins folder.
